General conflict-prevention steps; no measure guarantees protection.

Check for attractants

• ☐ Secure garbage and compost.
• ☐ Bring pet food indoors.
• ☐ Remove fallen fruit and food scraps.
• ☐ Check birdseed spillage and rodent attractants.
• ☐ Review accessible outdoor water.

Protect pets and access points

• ☐ Inspect fence gaps and gates.
• ☐ Check pet-door access.
• ☐ Check yard before letting pets outside.
• ☐ Supervise outdoor pet time.

Respond safely

• ☐ Keep people and pets away; never approach or corner a coyote.
• ☐ Leave the animal a clear exit.
• ☐ Do not feed, pursue, capture, or injure wildlife.
• ☐ Only consider safe noninjurious deterrence consistent with agency guidance; do not haze an apparently sick or injured animal.
• ☐ Document repeated concerning behavior from a safe place.
